During this year children learn lots of new words, start to understand their body, mind and emotions , knows the difference between feeling happy, sad, afraid or angry. Child also shows fear of imaginary things, cares about how others act and shows affection for familiar people. And as they get more confident, they’ll also get better at handling their emotions. At this age a child shows interest in playing with others and making friends with other children. Playing is very important because through which they explore feelings.
During this period children learn in a more focused and less hectic way than when they were younger. Kids usually can understand that letters and numbers are symbols of real things and ideas, and that they can be used to tell stories and offer information.
Most will know the names and gender of family members and other personal information. They often play with words and make up silly words and stories .The more interactive conversation and play kids are involved in, the more they learn. Reading books, singing, playing word games, and simply talking to kids will increase their vocabulary while providing increased opportunities to develop listening skills. As kids gain language skills, they also develop their conversational abilities.
During this period children try to build social, emotional and thinking skills and love to be independent, but, still they need parents, teachers love and attention. Children understand simple concepts like time (today, tomorrow, yesterday), knows the seasons, recognizes some words by sight and try to sound out words. they might even read on their own.
children talk a lot, sometimes even when nobody is in the room they create imaginary characters. They follow simple rules or instructions. They can talk about their favorite animal , bird , food , color or sport and also they listen, respond and question. This all helps children to get ready for school.
